The Healthcare/EMS Regional Prayer Chain provides spiritual care to these front-line workers in the Thunder Bay region through a private Facebook group that started only a month ago and already has over 160 members. If you’re a healthcare/EMS worker in the region, please feel free to request to be added to this group.

The Thunder Bay – United in Prayer Facebook group was started at the outset of the Covid-19 lockdown and now has over 800 members and features a video of a different local Christian leader every week in addition to focusing on encouraging everyone to spend focused time in prayer every Thursday from 7:00-7:30pm, while also fostering discussion around prayer. If you’d like to join this community of expectant prayer for our city at this time, please request to be added to this group.

These groups have partnered together to hold a 15-minute prayer event at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre at 9pm on May 14. If you are reading this in time, this may be a great opportunity for you to show your support and care for these workers.

With guidance from the local health unit, and promotion in the hospital, this event is sure to be an encouragement to many of our front-line workers. Most people are being asked to simply pray from inside their vehicles, while parked in one of the parking lots at the hospital, which are now free of charge, and with their hazard lights or high beams on to make their support visible from the hospital. Arrangements have also been made with a few people to park to the side in the drive encircling the hospital, as well as up to five people per parking lot to be outside their vehicles, with signs showing their support.

Here are the plans

8:30-9:00pm vehicles arrive, park, and optionally join a conference call (details below)

9:00pm prayer begins with Dr. Tracy Wilson, a surgeon, on the conference call

9:05pm A worship song called “The Blessing” is played on the conference call

9:12pm UCB Radio 95.1FM puts our regular broadcast on hold to air a prayer for hospital workers by Tanner Coursolle, the lead admin for the “Thunder Bay – United in Prayer” Facebook page.

9:15pm the event is concluded

If you wish to join the conference call, the Canadian long distance phone number is 1 778 907 2071, and you’ll be asked for the meeting ID (it’s 846 1884 8629) and passcode (it’s 457002 spelled backwards).

Or if you wish to join a video conference call, email me at r.freeman@ucbcanada.com and I’ll give you the link.
