When something is wrong, we often spring into “Fix It” mode. It makes sense that we’d do that. I mean, if you have a leaky faucet, you call a plumber or grab a wrench. If you want to lose weight, you join a gym or start an exercise regime.

So many people are busy. Like REALLY busy. They get up, jump into their shoes, walk the dog, make their kids' lunches, burn out of the driveway, work an 8 hour day, gobble down their dinner and flop into bed.

I just came home from a two-week vacation in Spain.
It’s good to be home. In spite of experiencing exotic foods, gorgeous architecture, and many cool adventures, I was happy to get back to my own bed, my own routines, my own house.
Being in a foreign country can be a bit unsettling. In many ways, it’s like being illiterate. You go to the grocery store and you don’t know how to read the labels. You go out for dinner, and you don’t know how to order off the menu. It’s difficult to drive. It’s difficult to converse. Years ago, when my husband and I were looking for a place to live in the Greater Toronto Area, we drove through a little town called, Acton. As I looked around at what I deemed an “ugly town,” my nose wrinkled.
“What is this place?” I asked my husband in disgust.
“Acton,” he answered.
“Acton?” I responded, incredulously. “I NEVER want to live in Acton.”
Never save never. Because it will come to bite you in the behind.
Sure enough, my husband Jon and I ended up in the “ugly” town of Acton.
And you know what?

It was like one day the rug was completely pulled out from under him and he didn't know what way was up and what way was down.
Dennis knew about UCB Radio. In fact, he often flicked through the car radio dial and heard its music. But whenever it came up, he quickly changed the channel.

It's Remembrance Day today, and if I'm honest, it hasn't always been a very big deal to me. Like anything that doesn't hit "close to home," you can sometimes become a little desensitized toward such things.
I feel bad saying that. Because I know "in my head" that people in the past paid a huge price for the freedom I have today.

I used to do a lot of acting. Especially when I was in high school. In fact, I once played Oliver in the musical Oliver Twist, but one week before curtain drop, I lost my voice. I literally could barely be heard above a whisper.
I know why I lost my voice.
I was burnt out.

Another day has gone by. And I still haven’t worked on my book.
For several years now, I’ve been wanting to write a book. I’ve read books on how to write a book. I’ve dreamed about holing up in a cottage for a week, happily typing away. I’ve even had a few spurts and starts, but most of the time, I keep thinking “One day.” One day when I have more time. One day when I’m not so busy. One day when the kids are older....

I’ve struggled with judging people my whole life. And I know it’s wrong.
But I also know that there are lots of other wrong things too. And people are doing those things. So I judge them.
For example, one day I was going for a walk with a friend...
