I hate getting out of bed in the morning. Even if I’ve gone to bed early the night before, every morning I still often feel like I just want to roll over, hit “snooze” and keep on sleeping.
But my dog doesn’t let me. No, by 6:45 am, he’s usually scratching at my door, begging for belly rubs and a walk.

At some point in our lives, many of us get discontent. We want a new job. A different direction. We want to get healthy, write a book, or start a podcast… but we can’t seem to pull the trigger.

I used to be an “I can’t” person. I never quite felt like I had the internal “stuffing” to accomplish things. Despite having a ton of evidence to the contrary, I still often felt incapable every time I faced a new challenge or obstacle.
When I was in school, every time a new “grade level” started, I doubted whether I could pass the classes.
But I always did.

When something is wrong, we often spring into “Fix It” mode. It makes sense that we’d do that. I mean, if you have a leaky faucet, you call a plumber or grab a wrench. If you want to lose weight, you join a gym or start an exercise regime.

So many people are busy. Like REALLY busy. They get up, jump into their shoes, walk the dog, make their kids' lunches, burn out of the driveway, work an 8 hour day, gobble down their dinner and flop into bed.

I just came home from a two-week vacation in Spain.
It’s good to be home. In spite of experiencing exotic foods, gorgeous architecture, and many cool adventures, I was happy to get back to my own bed, my own routines, my own house.
Being in a foreign country can be a bit unsettling. In many ways, it’s like being illiterate. You go to the grocery store and you don’t know how to read the labels. You go out for dinner, and you don’t know how to order off the menu. It’s difficult to drive. It’s difficult to converse. It’s difficult to just be yourself when everything around you feels… well, foreign.

I recently took a class, and one of the exercises was to imagine “Future You.” When you think about your Future You, 5, 10, 15 years from now, who do you see? What does she look like?

When I met my husband, I fell madly in love. Like, over-the-moon, lose-track-of-time, I-don’t-care-what-day-it-is type of love.
It was new for me. As someone who always followed the rules, who never missed a class, who went to bed at a decent time, I suddenly felt “beside myself” with love for this man.
I missed classes. I stayed up till the wee hours of the night. I went on spontaneous adventures with him. I thought of him during the day. I dreamed of him during the night.
It was exciting. It was euphoric.
And it didn’t last forever.
I know. Like, why not, right? Why can’t “first love” feelings last forever?

Jesus tells us He loves us. But why do we have such a hard time believing it? One reason may be because many of us struggle to accept “all” of ourselves.
The “good,” the “light” the “joyful” parts? No problem. But the parts that make poor decisions? The parts we deem “bad” or “dark”? These are a lot harder to accept.
